Implant therapy is a common treatment for the replacement of missing teeth. From single edentulous spaces to full mouth rehabilitation with the use of implant-supported overdentures and hybrids, implants provide the patient with a highly successful treatment option. However, to maintain the long-term functional and biological success of implants it is important to place implants in areas with a proper hard and soft tissue foundation. Hard and soft tissue augmentation is an important component in implant therapy. During this lecture, an overview of hard and soft tissue criteria for proper implant placement will be discussed. In addition, ways to augment the hard and soft tissue will be reviewed.
